Flagellin is the subunit protein which polymerizes to form the filaments of bacterial flagella. FlaA binds to flagellar assembly factor FliW protein, preventing FliW from binding to CsrA, so that CsrA can then bind flaA mRNA and represses its translation.1 Publication

Miscellaneous

The mRNA is localized to the poles of short, probably elongating, cells; mRNA localization is lost in an fliW deletion strain but restored in a csrA-fliW double deletion. Correct localization requires protein translation; mutation of the start codon to prevent translation initiation or a premature stop codon (at position 3) prevents mRNA localization, a stop codon at position 101 leads to partial localization to the cell poles.1 Publication

<p>The checksum is a form of redundancy check that is calculated from the sequence. It is useful for tracking sequence updates.</p> <p>It should be noted that while, in theory, two different sequences could have the same checksum value, the likelihood that this would happen is extremely low.</p> <p>However UniProtKB may contain entries with identical sequences in case of multiple genes (paralogs).</p> <p>The checksum is computed as the sequence 64-bit Cyclic Redundancy Check value (CRC64) using the generator polynomial: x<sup>64</sup> + x<sup>4</sup> + x<sup>3</sup> + x + 1.
