UniProtKB - P36112 (MIC60_YEAST)
Protein
MICOS complex subunit MIC60
Gene
MIC60
Organism
Saccharomyces cerevisiae (strain ATCC 204508 / S288c) (Baker's yeast)
Status
Functioni
Component of the MICOS complex, a large protein complex of the mitochondrial inner membrane that plays crucial roles in the maintenance of crista junctions, inner membrane architecture, and formation of contact sites to the outer membrane. Plays a role in keeping cristae membranes connected to the inner boundary membrane. Also promotes protein import via the mitochondrial intermembrane space assembly (MIA) pathway.3 Publications
Miscellaneous
Present with 5730 molecules/cell in log phase SD medium.1 Publication

Disruption phenotypei
Increases frequency of mitochondrial genome loss and leads to altered mitochondrial morphology. Moderately reduces mitochondrial membrane potential and import efficiency of preproteins that are transported into or across the inner membrane via TIM23 complex. Impairs precursor protein import via the MIA pathway. 60-70% of mitochondria exhibit an increased inner membrane surface and stacks of lamellar cristae disconnected from the inner boundary membrane.3 Publications

Interactioni
Subunit structurei
Component of the mitochondrial contact site and cristae organizing system (MICOS) complex, composed of at least MIC10, MIC12, MIC19, MIC26, MIC27 and MIC60. This complex was also known under the names MINOS or MitOS complex.
Interacts with TOM22 and TOM40 in a MICOS-independent manner, resulting in coupling with the outer membrane.
Interacts with MIA40, OM45 and POR1.
