Protein

Interferon alpha-1

Gene

Ifna1

Organism
Rattus norvegicus (Rat)
Status
Reviewed-Annotation score: -Experimental evidence at protein leveli

Functioni

Produced by macrophages, IFN-alpha have antiviral activities. Interferon stimulates the production of two enzymes: a protein kinase and an oligoadenylate synthetase.

Miscellaneous

There appear to be at least 12 rat interferon-alpha-1 genes.
The antiviral activity of this interferon appears to be independent of glycosylation.
