Protein

Viral interleukin-10 homolog

Gene

BCRF1

Organism
Epstein-Barr virus (strain B95-8) (HHV-4) (Human herpesvirus 4)
Status
Reviewed-Annotation score: -Experimental evidence at protein leveli

Functioni

Plays a role in masking infected cells for immune recognition by cytotoxic T-lymphocytes. Down-regulates the expression of the host TAP1 gene (transporter associated with antigen processing), thereby affecting the transport of peptides into the endoplasmic reticulum and subsequent peptide loading by MHC class I molecules. Inhibits IFN-gamma synthesis.2 Publications

Caution

Be careful of the possible confusion between BCRF1 with BcRF1.Curated
