Dufourea novaeangliae is an insect bee species belonging to taxonomic group Halictidae. The genome of Dufourea novaeangliae was sequenced and studied with 9 other bee species to understand the genomic signatures associated with the evolution of Eusociality (from an individual organism to a group organization) in bees.

Genomic DNA was extracted from male bees (whole body samples) and sequencing done using Illumina HiSeq followed by SOAPdenovo assembly. The study showed a correlation between social complexity and various genomic features such as the number of methylated genes, gene regulation by transcription factors and decreased diversity of transposable elements,
