Formerly known as Caulobacter maris, a marine member of the dimorphic prosthecate bacteria (DPB). DPB are alpha-proteobacteria that reproduce in an asymmetric manner rather than by binary fission and are of interest as simple models of development. M.maris are chemo-organotrophic aerobes, and probably contribute to carbon and other nutrient cycling. Strain MCS 10 was isolated from filtered seawater in Washington State, USA.
