Completenessi | Standard |
Small, nonmotile, Gram-negative bacterium whose only natural host is human. Six H.influenzae serotype strains (a-f) have been identified. They are commensal residents of the upper respiratory mucosa of children and adults and cause otitis media and respiratory tract infections mostly in children. More serious invasive infection is caused almost exclusively by type b strains.
