Protein which, if defective, is involved in autism spectrum disorder, a clinically heterogeneous group of disorders that share common features of impaired social relationships, impaired language and communication, repetitive behaviors, and a restricted range of interests. The spectrum includes diverse phenotypic manifestations, such as classic autism, Asperger syndrome, childhood disintegrative disorder, Rett syndrome, and pervasive developmental disorder not otherwise specified.
