Protein which, if defective, causes premature ovarian failure, a condition characterized by the arrest of normal ovarian function before the age of 40 years, due to a primary ovarian defect. It is characterized by absent menarche (primary amenorrhea) or premature depletion of ovarian follicles (secondary amenorrhea).
