Protein involved in the synthesis of glycogen, a branched polymer of D-glucose (mostly -(1-4) linked, but with some -(1-6) linked residues at branch points). Glycogen is the major short term storage polymer of animal cells and is particularly abundant in liver and to a lesser extent in muscles.
