General annotation (Comments)

Function

Inhibits cell growth by regulating the Tor pathway upstream of the Tsc1-Tsc2 complex and downstream of Akt1. Acts as cell death activator during head development. Ref.7 Ref.8 Ref.9

Subcellular location

Cytoplasm By similarity.

Developmental stage

Expression peaks 2-8 hours after egg laying. Expressed in the dorsal domains of gastrulation stage embryos. During mid-embryonic developmental stages, expressed in the central nervous system, the three thoracic segments and the cardiac precursor cells. Ref.9

Induction

Expression is controlled by homeobox transcription factors. At larval stages, induced by starvation, and by hypoxia in midgut and fat body. Ref.7 Ref.9

Sequence similarities

Belongs to the DDIT4 family.

Alternative products

This entry describes 2 isoforms produced by alternative splicing. [Align] [Select]
Isoform A (identifier: Q9VTH4-1)

This isoform has been chosen as the 'canonical' sequence. All positional information in this entry refers to it. This is also the sequence that appears in the downloadable versions of the entry.
Isoform B (identifier: Q9VTH4-2)

The sequence of this isoform differs from the canonical sequence as follows:
     1-39: Missing.
