General annotation (Comments)

Function

Responsible for guiding the germ cells early in the process of migration from the lumen of the developing gut towards the overlying mesoderm, where the germ cells enter the gonads. May be involved in lipid metabolism. Ref.1 Ref.7

Catalytic activity

A 3-sn-phosphatidate + H2O = a 1,2-diacyl-sn-glycerol + phosphate.

Subunit structure

Homodimer. This complex seems not to be involved in substrate recognition, it may confer only structural or functional stability. Ref.8

Subcellular location

Membrane; Multi-pass membrane protein Potential.

Tissue specificity

Expressed in embryonic gut in a pattern that guides germ cells towards mesoderm (initially in hindgut and then on lower side of gut). During extended germ band stage, expressed in ectoderm as a medial band throughout the trunk. Ref.1

Sequence similarities

Belongs to the PA-phosphatase related phosphoesterase family.

Ontologies

Alternative products

This entry describes 2 isoforms produced by alternative splicing. [Align] [Select]
Isoform Long (identifier: Q9V576-1)

This isoform has been chosen as the 'canonical' sequence. All positional information in this entry refers to it. This is also the sequence that appears in the downloadable versions of the entry.
Isoform Short (identifier: Q9V576-2)

The sequence of this isoform differs from the canonical sequence as follows:
     1-79: Missing.
Note: No experimental confirmation available.
