General annotation (Comments)

Function

CIPK serine-threonine protein kinases interact with CBL proteins. Binding of a CBL protein to the regulatory NAF domain of CIPK protein lead to the activation of the kinase in a calcium-dependent manner By similarity.

Catalytic activity

ATP + a protein = ADP + a phosphoprotein.

Cofactor

Manganese By similarity.

Subunit structure

Interacts with CBL2. Ref.1

Tissue specificity

Expressed at low levels in roots and shoots. Ref.2

Domain

The activation loop within the kinase domain is the target of phosphorylation/activation by upstream protein kinases. The PPI motif mediates the interaction with the ABI (abscisic acid-insensitive) phosphatases By similarity.

Sequence similarities

Belongs to the protein kinase superfamily. CAMK Ser/Thr protein kinase family. SNF1 subfamily.

Contains 1 NAF domain.

Contains 1 protein kinase domain.

Alternative products

This entry describes 4 isoforms produced by alternative splicing. [Align] [Select]
Isoform 3 (identifier: Q9MAM1-3)

This isoform has been chosen as the 'canonical' sequence. All positional information in this entry refers to it. This is also the sequence that appears in the downloadable versions of the entry.
Note: No experimental confirmation available.
Isoform 1 (identifier: Q9MAM1-1)

The sequence of this isoform differs from the canonical sequence as follows:
     231-231: R → RVR
     422-422: K → KVCDS
Note: Derived from EST data. May be due to a competing donor splice site. No experimental confirmation available.
Isoform 2 (identifier: Q9MAM1-2)

The sequence of this isoform differs from the canonical sequence as follows:
     231-231: R → RVR
Note: May be due to a competing donor splice site. No experimental confirmation available.
Isoform 4 (identifier: Q9MAM1-4)

The sequence of this isoform differs from the canonical sequence as follows:
     422-422: K → KVCDS
Note: May be due to a competing donor splice site. No experimental confirmation available.
