General annotation (Comments)

Function

Adds a myristoyl group to the N-terminal glycine residue of certain cellular proteins. Can also use decanoyl-CoA and lauroyl-CoA as substrates. Ref.1 Ref.2

Catalytic activity

Tetradecanoyl-CoA + glycylpeptide = CoA + N-tetradecanoylglycylpeptide.

Subcellular location

Cytoplasm. Note: Mostly associated to ribosomes. Present to a lower extent in mitochondria. Ref.1

Tissue specificity

Expressed ubiquitously, with higher levels in young tissues (at protein level). Ref.1

Sequence similarities

Belongs to the NMT family.

Biophysicochemical properties

Kinetic parameters:

KM=3.7 µM for myristoyl-CoA, in the presence of CPK3 Ref.1

pH dependence:

Optimum pH is 7.8. Active from pH 5.5 to 8.5.

Sequence caution

The sequence BAA97032.1 differs from that shown. Reason: Erroneous gene model prediction.
