Developmental stagei

During development, expressed in embryonic structures of both mesodermal and ectodermal origins, including the heart, cranial motor neurons and the roof of the dorsal aorta. Prominently associated with heart formation and continuously expressed in the myocardial lineage from the initiation of myocardial differentiation through to formation of the differentiated, two chambered heart. First detected in anterior lateral plate mesoderm (ALPM) and by the 5- to 10-somite stages, strongly expressed in ALPM and in two bilateral groups of mesenchymal cells close to the anterior notochord and in a crescent of lateral plate adjacent to the tail. At the 6- to 8- and 12- to 14-somite stages, expressed throughout the ALPM. Between the 10 and 15-somite stages, expressed throughout the myocardium. At the 18-somite stage, expressed in the loosely packed mesenchymal cells in the midline immediately anterior to the heart fields. Later expression seen in the cardiac cone, cardiac tube and ventricle.2 Publications
