General annotation (Comments)

Function

Serine/threonine-protein kinase. Casein kinases are operationally defined by their preferential utilization of acidic proteins such as caseins as substrates. It can phosphorylate a large number of proteins. Participates in Wnt signaling. Regulates fast synaptic transmission mediated by glutamate By similarity. Phosphorylates CLSPN. Ref.7

Catalytic activity

ATP + a protein = ADP + a phosphoprotein.

Enzyme regulation

Repressed by 2-(2-hydroxyethylamino)-6-(3-chloroanilino)-9-isopropylpurine (DB08325).

Subunit structure

Monomer By similarity.

Subcellular location

Cytoplasm.

Post-translational modification

Autophosphorylated By similarity.

Sequence similarities

Belongs to the protein kinase superfamily. CK1 Ser/Thr protein kinase family. Casein kinase I subfamily.

Contains 1 protein kinase domain.

Alternative products

This entry describes 2 isoforms produced by alternative splicing. [Align] [Select]
Isoform 1L (identifier: Q9HCP0-1)

This isoform has been chosen as the 'canonical' sequence. All positional information in this entry refers to it. This is also the sequence that appears in the downloadable versions of the entry.
Isoform 1S (identifier: Q9HCP0-2)

The sequence of this isoform differs from the canonical sequence as follows:
     370-422: VVSSTNGELN...KRKKTAQRHK → SLRTVTAEHYDVNNSAIWHRGRGT
Note: May be produced at very low levels due to a premature stop codon in the mRNA, leading to nonsense-mediated mRNA decay.
