Mutant mice have normal testicular morphology and spermatogenesis but have moderately impaired motility and increased levels of ROPN1 (PubMed:23303679). Double knockout animals for ROPN1 and ROPN1L are infertile with normal testicular morphology and spermatogenesis but defects in sperm morphology, thinning and shredding of the principal piece.
