General annotation (Comments)

Function

Negative regulator of katanin-mediated microtubule severing and release from the centrosome. Required for central spindle formation and the completion of cytokinesis. May negatively regulate axonal outgrowth by preventing the formation of microtubule bundles that are necessary for transport within the elongating axon. Negative regulator of the Wnt signaling pathway. Represses beta-catenin-mediated transcriptional activation by promoting the nuclear exclusion of beta-catenin. Ref.7 Ref.8 Ref.9 Ref.10

Subunit structure

Interacts with KATNB1. Also interacts with CTNNB1, gamma-tubulin and KIF23. Ref.7 Ref.8

Subcellular location

Cytoplasm. Cytoplasmcytoskeletoncentrosome. Note: Localized to the centrosome throughout the cell cycle. Localized to the midbody in cells undergoing cytokinesis. Ref.7 Ref.8 Ref.10

Tissue specificity

Highly expressed in prostate and testis, and at slightly lower levels in spleen, thymus, uterus, small intestine and colon. Ref.5

Induction

Induced by inhibition of NF-kappa-B signaling. Ref.9

Sequence similarities

Belongs to the LZTS2 family.
