Catalyzes electron transfer from reduced pyridine nucleotides to flavins as well as methylene blue, pyrroloquinoline quinone, riboflavin, or methemoglobin. Possible role in protecting cells from oxidative damage or in regulating iron metabolism. In the liver, converts biliverdin to bilirubin By similarity.
