General annotation (Comments)

Function

Promotes formation and maturation of oligodendrocytes, especially within the brain. Cooperates with OLIG2 to establish the pMN domain of the embryonic neural tube By similarity. Ref.5

Subcellular location

Nucleus By similarity.

Tissue specificity

Expressed in the brain, in oligodendrocytes. Strongly expressed in oligodendrogliomas, while expression is weak to moderate in astrocytomas. Expression in glioblastomas is highly variable. Ref.6

Sequence similarities

Contains 1 basic helix-loop-helix (bHLH) domain.

Sequence caution

The sequence AAH26989.1 differs from that shown. Reason: Erroneous initiation. Translation N-terminally extended.

The sequence DAA01058.1 differs from that shown. Reason: Erroneous initiation. Translation N-terminally extended.
