Protein existenceEvidence at protein level

General annotation (Comments)

Function

Required presynaptically at the neuromuscular junction. Implicated in synaptic vesicle endocytosis. Ref.1 Ref.2

Subcellular location

Cytoplasm. Membrane; Peripheral membrane protein. Note: Associated with internal membranes. Expressed presynaptically at NMJs. Ref.1 Ref.2

Tissue specificity

Expression is abundant in central nervous system (brain lobes and the ventral nerve cord) starting at embryonic stage 13 through to third instar larvae. Also expressed in photoreceptors in the eye imaginal disks and the Bolwig organs of the peripheral nervous system. Ref.1 Ref.2

Disruption phenotype

Flies exhibit dramatic impairment of clathrin-mediated endocytosis. Total loss of endoA causes severe defects in motility and death at the early L2 larval stage. Ref.1

Sequence similarities

Belongs to the endophilin family.

Contains 1 BAR domain.

Contains 1 SH3 domain.

RNA editing

Edited at positions 129 and 137.
Partially edited. Target of Adar. Ref.1 Ref.5 Ref.6
