General annotation (Comments)
| Function | Receptor activated by amino acids with a preference for basic amino acids such as L-Lys, L-Arg and L-ornithine but also by small and polar amino acids. The L-alpha amino acids respond is augmented by divalent cations Ca2+ and Mg2+. Activated by extracellular calcium and osteocalin. Seems to act through a G(q)/G11 and G(i)-coupled pathway. Mediates the non-genomic effects of androgens in multiple tissue. May coordinates nutritional and hormonal anabolic signals through the sensing of extracellular amino acids, osteocalcin, divalents ions and its responsiveness to anabolic steroids. Ref.4 Ref.5 Ref.6 Ref.7 |
| Subunit structure | Homodimer; disulfide-linked. Ref.1 |
| Subcellular location | |
| Tissue specificity | Expressed at high level in liver, lung, spleen and heart. Expressed at lower level in kidney, skeletal muscle and brain. Expressed in E7, E11, E15 and E17 embryos. Ref.1 Ref.5 |
| Post-translational modification | N-glycosylated. Ref.1 |
| Disruption phenotype | Deficient mice shown normal body weight, an increased fat mass, decreased lean body, hyperglycemia and insulin resistance, proteinuria, renal calcium, phosphate wasting, impaired bone mineral density and defective testicular function. Ref.6 Ref.7 |
| Sequence similarities | Belongs to the G-protein coupled receptor 3 family. |
