Function

Required for maturation of urease via the functional incorporation of the urease nickel metallocenter By similarity. Ref.3

Disrupting the ure2 operon has no effect on urease activity, or pathogen survival in BALB/c mice when innoculated by gavage, but confers slightly enhanced resistance to low pH killing in vitro. Ref.3

Subunit structure

UreD, UreF and UreG form a complex that acts as a GTP-hydrolysis-dependent molecular chaperone, activating the urease apoprotein by helping to assemble the nickel containing metallocenter of UreC. The UreE protein probably delivers the nickel By similarity.
