Photosystem II reaction center protein L

Gene

psbL

Organism
Thermosynechococcus elongatus (strain BP-1)
Status
Reviewed-Annotation score: Annotation score: 4 out of 5-Experimental evidence at protein leveli

Functioni

One of the components of the core complex of photosystem II (PSII). PSII is a light-driven water:plastoquinone oxidoreductase that uses light energy to abstract electrons from H2O, generating O2 and a proton gradient subsequently used for ATP formation. It consists of a core antenna complex that captures photons, and an electron transfer chain that converts photonic excitation into a charge separation. This subunit is found at the monomer-monomer interface and is required for correct PSII assembly and/or dimerization. This subunit may make specific contacts with lipid(s) (PubMed:16355230).UniRule annotation3 Publications

Cofactori

Note: PSII binds multiple chlorophylls, carotenoids and specific lipids.11 Publications
