General annotation (Comments)

Function

DNA binding protein that function as transcriptional activator. Is essentiel for normal postnatal growth and nursing. Is an essential factor for neuronal neuropeptide Y and agouti-related peptide function and locomotory behavior in the control of energy balance. Ref.2 Ref.5 Ref.6

Subcellular location

Isoform 1: Nucleus.

Isoform 2: Cytoplasm.

Tissue specificity

Expressed in brain. In brain, it is restricted to a few specific developing brain structures such as pineal gland, telencephalic septum, hypothalamic pre-mammillary body and arcuate nucleus. Ref.4

Developmental stage

Expressed in early embryonic stages of epiphysis development from E9.5 onwards. Ref.4

Sequence similarities

Belongs to the distal-less homeobox family.

Contains 1 homeobox DNA-binding domain.

Alternative products

This entry describes 2 isoforms produced by alternative splicing. [Align] [Select]
Isoform 1 (identifier: Q810B3-1)

Also known as: Bsxla;

This isoform has been chosen as the 'canonical' sequence. All positional information in this entry refers to it. This is also the sequence that appears in the downloadable versions of the entry.
Isoform 2 (identifier: Q810B3-2)

Also known as: Bsxlb;

The sequence of this isoform differs from the canonical sequence as follows:
     88-131: GMPVPALFPH...LSGLEKRFEI → ALRPGEKVRN...NVVPEPADEA
     132-232: Missing.
