General annotation (Comments)

Function

Probable transcriptional activator in the premeiotic germ cells. It binds to the sequences 5'-AACAAT-'3 or 5'-AACAAAG-3'. The short form (T-SOX17) shows no DNA-binding activity.

Subcellular location

Nucleus Potential.

Tissue specificity

Testis. Detected in lung.

Developmental stage

Expressed in spermatogonia. The expression clearly declines from the early pachytene spermatocyte stage onward. In contrast, expression of form T-SOX17 began at the pachytene spermatocyte stage and was highly accumulated in round spermatids.

Sequence similarities

Contains 1 HMG box DNA-binding domain.

Alternative products

This entry describes 2 isoforms produced by alternative splicing. [Align] [Select]
Isoform 1 (identifier: Q61473-1)

This isoform has been chosen as the 'canonical' sequence. All positional information in this entry refers to it. This is also the sequence that appears in the downloadable versions of the entry.
Isoform 2 (identifier: Q61473-2)

Also known as: T-SOX17;

The sequence of this isoform differs from the canonical sequence as follows:
     1-128: Missing.
