General annotation (Comments)

Function

Receptor for neuropeptide Y and peptide YY. The rank order of affinity of this receptor for pancreatic polypeptides is NPY = PYY >= NPY (2-36) = [Leu-31, Pro-34] NPY > NPY (13-36) > PP. The activity of this receptor is mediated by G proteins that inhibits adenylate cyclase activity.

Subcellular location

Cell membrane; Multi-pass membrane protein.

Tissue specificity

Kidney and discrete regions of the hypothalamus including the suprachiasmatic nucleus, anterior hypothalamus, bed nucleus stria terminalis, and the ventromedial nucleus.

Developmental stage

Expressed in embryo at 7 dpc. Ref.2

Sequence similarities

Belongs to the G-protein coupled receptor 1 family.

Caution

Was originally called NPY5-R.
