Catalyzes the phosphorylation of thiamine to thiamine pyrophosphate (TPP). TPP is an active cofactor for enzymes involved in glycolysis and energy production. Plant leaves require high levels of TPP for photosynthesis and carbohydrate metabolism (By similarity).By similarity
