General annotation (Comments)

Function

Seems to play a critical role in chloroplast nucleoid partitioning by regulating DNA topology. DNA gyrase negatively supercoils closed circular double-stranded DNA in an ATP-dependent manner. Ref.1

Catalytic activity

ATP-dependent breakage, passage and rejoining of double-stranded DNA.

Subunit structure

Made up of two chains. The A chain is responsible for DNA breakage and rejoining; the B chain catalyzes ATP hydrolysis By similarity.

Subcellular location

Plastidchloroplast. Mitochondrion Ref.1.

Tissue specificity

Ubiquitous. Ref.1

Developmental stage

Up-regulated during seed germination and leaf expansion. Ref.1

Sequence similarities

Belongs to the topoisomerase GyrA/ParC subunit family.
