General annotation (Comments)

Function

Catalyzes the reversible hydration of CO2 to H2CO3. The main role may be to provide inorganic carbon for the bicarbonate-dependent carboxylation reactions catalyzed by pyruvate carboxylase, acetyl-CoA carboxylase and carbamoyl-phosphate synthetase By similarity. Involved in osmoadaptation.

Catalytic activity

H2CO3 = CO2 + H2O.

Cofactor

Binds 1 zinc ion per subunit By similarity.

Induction

Down-regulated when grown with elevated levels of potassium chloride. Ref.3

Sequence similarities

Belongs to the beta-class carbonic anhydrase family.

Sequence caution

The sequence CBF85595.1 differs from that shown. Reason: Erroneous initiation. Translation N-terminally shortened.

The sequence EAA64970.1 differs from that shown. Reason: Erroneous gene model prediction.
