Function

Long chain fatty acid acyl-CoA synthetases catalyze the formation of a thiester bond between a free fatty acid and coenzyme A during fatty acid metabolic process. May mediate fatty acid retrieval from the lumen of endosomes into the cytoplasm. Ref.1

Catalytic activity

ATP + a long-chain carboxylic acid + CoA = AMP + diphosphate + an acyl-CoA.

Subcellular location

Endosome membrane; Peripheral membrane protein; Cytoplasmic side. Note: Associates with endosomes a few minutes after their formation, remains bound through the acidic phase of endocytic maturation and dissociates early in the phase where the endosomal content is neutralized prior to exocytosis. Ref.1

Developmental stage
