General annotation (Comments)

Function

Highly stable protease. Although the physiological function is unclear it is the dominant protease in P.furiosus.

Subunit structure

Homooligomer. Two active complexes, a 86 and a 66 kDa, have been found. They probably contain four and three subunits respectively.

Subcellular location

Cytoplasm Ref.1.

Miscellaneous

Is resistant to several denaturants.

Sequence similarities

Belongs to the peptidase C56 family.

Contains 1 PfpI endopeptidase domain.

Biophysicochemical properties

Temperature dependence:

Highly thermostable (a half-life of over 30 hours at 98 degrees Celsius). Ref.1
