General annotation (Comments)

Function

Macrophage receptor for apoptotic cells.

Subcellular location

Cell membrane; Single-pass membrane protein.

Tissue specificity

Found on hemocytes from hemolymph, and later in the development, on macrophages that contain apoptotic cell corpses.

Developmental stage

Expressed on hemocytes/macrophages in embryogenesis. First detected in late stage 11 embryos, which corresponds to the first wave of apoptosis. Expressed in cells that by stage 12 spread throughout the embryo and by stage 13/14 have migrated from both ends towards the middle until they are evenly distributed by stage 15.

Post-translational modification

N-glycosylated and/or O-glycosylated Probable.

Miscellaneous

'Croquemort' means literally 'the one who bites dead persons' in French and is colloquial for undertaker.

Sequence similarities

Belongs to the CD36 family.

Sequence caution

The sequence AAF51494.1 differs from that shown. Reason: Erroneous gene model prediction.
