General annotation (Comments)

Function

Bifunctional serine/threonine kinase and phosphorylase involved in the dark/light-mediated regulation of PPDK by catalyzing its phosphorylation/dephosphorylation. Dark/light-induced changes in stromal concentrations of the competing ADP and Pi substrates govern the direction of the reaction. In the dark, phosphorylates the catalytic intermediate of PPDK (PPDK-HisP), inactivating it. Light exposure induces the phosphorolysis reaction that reactivates PPDK. Ref.2 Ref.4 Ref.6

Catalytic activity

ADP + [Pyruvate, phosphate dikinase] = AMP + [pyruvate, phosphate dikinase] phosphate. Ref.3

[Pyruvate, phosphate dikinase] phosphate + phosphate = [pyruvate, phosphate dikinase] + diphosphate. Ref.3

Enzyme regulation

Regulated by light/dark exposure.

Pathway

Photosynthesis; C4 acid pathway.

Subcellular location

Plastidchloroplast stroma. Ref.5

Tissue specificity

Leaf mesophyll-cells.

Sequence similarities

Belongs to the pyruvate, phosphate dikinase regulatory protein family.
