General annotation (Comments)

Function

GTP-binding protein involved in protein trafficking; may modulate vesicle budding and uncoating within the Golgi apparatus. Involved in endoplasmic reticulum dynamics during embryogenesis. Also required for adult germline function. Ref.2 Ref.3

Subcellular location

Golgi apparatus By similarity.

Tissue specificity

Expressed in hypodermis, intestine, spermatheca, uterus, gonadal sheath, vulva cells, pharynx muscle, body wall muscle, head neurons, ventral nerve cord. Ref.2

Developmental stage

First detected in very young embryos with as little as 48-64 cells. Ref.2

Disruption phenotype

Death during embryogenesis. Some muscle differentiation occurs although it is poorly organized and little elongation or morphogenesis is evident. Ref.3

Sequence similarities

Belongs to the small GTPase superfamily. Arf family.
