General annotation (Comments)

Function

Catalyzes the transfer of a geranyl-geranyl moiety from geranyl-geranyl pyrophosphate to proteins having the C-terminal -XCC or -XCXC, where both cysteines may become modified. Acts on YPT1 and SEC4.

Catalytic activity

Geranylgeranyl diphosphate + protein-cysteine = S-geranylgeranyl-protein + diphosphate.

Subunit structure

Heterodimer of an alpha and a beta subunit.

Sequence similarities

Belongs to the protein prenyltransferase subunit alpha family.

Contains 5 PFTA repeats.

Caution

Was originally (Ref.1) thought to be MAD2.

Sequence caution

The sequence AAA21386.1 differs from that shown. Reason: Erroneous gene model prediction.

The sequence CAA89323.1 differs from that shown. Reason: Erroneous gene model prediction.
