General annotation (Comments)

Function

G protein-coupled receptor that probably associates with the patched protein (PTCH) to transduce the hedgehog's proteins signal. Binding of sonic hedgehog (SHH) to its receptor patched is thought to prevent normal inhibition by patched of smoothened (SMO).

Subunit structure

Interacts with ARRB2 By similarity.

Subcellular location

Membrane; Multi-pass membrane protein.

Tissue specificity

In embryo, found in the early neural folds and neural tube, pre-somitic mesoderm and somites, developing limb bud, gut, eye, testes, cartilage, muscle, lung, epiglottis, thymus, tongue, jaw, taste buds, teeth, and skin. In adult, found in multiple tissues including heart, brain, liver, lung, skeletal muscle, kidney and testis.

Sequence similarities

Belongs to the G-protein coupled receptor Fz/Smo family.

Contains 1 FZ (frizzled) domain.
