Protein

Alpha-elapitoxin-Oh2b

Gene
N/A
Organism
Ophiophagus hannah (King cobra) (Naja hannah)
Status
Reviewed-Annotation score: Annotation score: 4 out of 5-Experimental evidence at protein leveli

Functioni

Binds with high affinity to muscular (alpha-1/CHRNA1) and neuronal (alpha-7/CHRNA7) nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (nAChR) and inhibits acetylcholine from binding to the receptor, thereby impairing neuromuscular and neuronal transmission (By similarity). Recombinant LNTX1 leads to a functional block of the muscle-type acetylcholine receptors. Has a cytotoxic activity. This neurotoxin is lethal (PubMed:16689684).By similarity1 Publication

Miscellaneous

OH-6A and OH-6B are disulfide isomers which arise from cis-trans isomerization of the Cys-47-Cys-51 disulfide bond. They differ in the retention time in reversed-phase column and the conformation.
