General annotation (Comments)
| Function | Guanine nucleotide-binding proteins (G proteins) are involved as a modulator or transducer in various transmembrane signaling systems. The beta and gamma chains are required for the GTPase activity, for replacement of GDP by GTP, and for G protein-effector interaction. This subunit may have a very specific role in the development and turnover of olfactory and vomeronasal neurons. Ref.1 |
| Subunit structure | G proteins are composed of 3 units, alpha, beta and gamma. |
| Subcellular location | Cell membrane; Lipid-anchor; Cytoplasmic side Potential. |
| Tissue specificity | Detected in the olfactory epithelium, the vomeronasal epithelium and, to a lesser extent, the olfactory bulb. Ref.1 |
| Developmental stage | During development, expression in the olfactory epithelium parallels neurogenesis, peaking shortly after birth and declining in the adult. Ref.1 |
| Sequence similarities | Belongs to the G protein gamma family. |
