General annotation (Comments)

Function

Required for initiation of meiotic chromosome synapsis. Involved in synaptonemal complex formation, a structure that tethers a pair of homologous chromosomes along their lengths and plays a central role in recombination and homolog segregation during meiosis. Required for the normal localization of MSH4 to chromosomes. Ref.3 Ref.4 Ref.5 Ref.6 Ref.7 Ref.9 Ref.10

Subunit structure

Interacts with ZIP3. Ref.5

Subcellular location

Nucleus. Note: localizes to a meiosis specific chromosomal structure called the synaptonemal complex (SC) formed during meiotic prophase. Ref.3 Ref.7 Ref.10 Ref.8

Induction

During meiosis. Ref.3

Sequence similarities

Belongs to the ZIP2 family.
