General annotation (Comments)

Function

Reduction of arsenate [As(V)] to arsenite [As(III)]. This protein expands the substrate specificity of arsAB pump which can extrude arsenite and antimonite to allow for arsenate pumping and resistance By similarity.

Catalytic activity

Arsenate + glutaredoxin = arsenite + glutaredoxin disulfide + H2O.

Sequence similarities

Belongs to the arsC family.

Caution

This is a truncated ORF. Compared to E.coli W3110, the strain MG1655 has an apparent deletion of about 6 kb which seems to truncate this putative arsC homolog.

Could be the product of a pseudogene.
