General annotation (Comments)

Function

This enzyme metabolizes arachidonic acid predominantly via a NADPH-dependent olefin epoxidation mainly to 14,15-, 11,12-, and 8,9-epoxyeicosatrienoic acids (EET). It also acts as an omega-1-hydroxylase by metabolizing arachidonic acid to 19-hydroxyeicosatetraenoic acid (19-OH-AA).

Catalytic activity

RH + reduced flavoprotein + O2 = ROH + oxidized flavoprotein + H2O.

Cofactor

Heme group By similarity.

Subcellular location

Endoplasmic reticulum membrane; Peripheral membrane protein. Microsome membrane; Peripheral membrane protein.

Tissue specificity

Abundantly expressed in heart and liver.

Sequence similarities

Belongs to the cytochrome P450 family.
