Protein

Casein kinase II subunit alpha

Gene

cka1

Organism
Schizosaccharomyces pombe (strain 972 / ATCC 24843) (Fission yeast)
Status
Reviewed-Annotation score: -Experimental evidence at transcript leveli

Functioni

Casein kinases are operationally defined by their preferential utilization of acidic proteins such as caseins as substrates. Plays a role in the translation of cell polarity into polarized growth. The alpha and alpha' chains contain the catalytic site.

Catalytic activityi

ATP + a protein = ADP + a phosphoprotein.
