General annotation (Comments)

Function

This is a receptor for the tachykinin neuropeptide neuromedin-K (neurokinin B). It is associated with G proteins that activate a phosphatidylinositol-calcium second messenger system.

Subcellular location

Cell membrane; Multi-pass membrane protein.

Post-translational modification

The anchoring of this receptor to the plasma membrane is probably mediated by the palmitoylation of a cysteine residue.

Sequence similarities

Belongs to the G-protein coupled receptor 1 family.

Caution

Was originally (Ref.1) thought to be a kappa-type opioid receptor and to originate from human. Ref.2 showed that it is a tachikinin receptor and was termed NK-4R. Ref.3 shows that it is from guinea pig and is NK-3R.
