General annotation (Comments)

Function

Component of the ceramide synthase complex required for C26-CoA-dependent ceramide synthesis. Redundant with LAG1. Facilitates ER-to-Golgi transport of GPI-anchored proteins. Ref.5 Ref.6 Ref.7 Ref.12

Catalytic activity

Acyl-CoA + sphingosine = CoA + N-acylsphingosine.

Subunit structure

Composed of the ceramide synthase complex composed of at least LAC1, LAG1 and LIP1.

Subcellular location

Endoplasmic reticulum membrane; Multi-pass membrane protein Ref.5 Ref.9.

Induction

Expression is controlled by PDR1 and PDR3 which bind its propmoter PDRE element, and by ROX1 and CBF1. Ref.11

Miscellaneous

Present with 2840 molecules/cell in log phase SD medium. Ref.10

Sequence similarities

Belongs to the sphingosine N-acyltransferase family.

Contains 1 TLC (TRAM/LAG1/CLN8) domain.
