General annotation (Comments)

Function

Predominant enzyme isoform responsiblefor arachidonic acid epoxidation in the rat kidney. Catalyzes the NADPH-dependent metabolism of arachidonic acid to a mixture of 5,6-, 8,9-, 11,12-, and 14,15-epoxyeicosatrienoic acids (EETS) as the only oxygenation products. Low rate of lauric acid hydroxylation at the (omega-1)-position.

Catalytic activity

RH + reduced flavoprotein + O2 = ROH + oxidized flavoprotein + H2O.

Cofactor

Heme group By similarity.

Subcellular location

Endoplasmic reticulum membrane; Peripheral membrane protein. Microsome membrane; Peripheral membrane protein.

Tissue specificity

Highly expressed in kidney and liver; undetectable in brain and heart.

Induction

Constitutively expressed.

Sequence similarities

Belongs to the cytochrome P450 family.
