General annotation (Comments)

Subunit structure

Component of the mitochondrial large ribosomal subunit. Mature mitochondrial ribosomes consist of a small (37S) and a large (54S) subunit. The 37S subunit contains at least 33 different proteins and 1 molecule of RNA (15S). The 54S subunit contains at least 45 different proteins and 1 molecule of RNA (21S).

Subcellular location

Mitochondrion Ref.8 Ref.10.

Miscellaneous

Although this protein has evidently no mitochondrial targeting pre-sequence, it is efficiently transported into mitochondria.

Present with 3000 molecules/cell in log phase SD medium. Ref.9

Sequence similarities

Belongs to the ribosomal protein L17P family.
