Hydrolysis of (1->4)-beta-linkages between N-acetylmuramic acid and N-acetyl-D-glucosamine residues in a peptidoglycan and between N-acetyl-D-glucosamine residues in chitodextrins.

Sequence similarities

Belongs to the reoviridae sigma-1 protein family.

Caution

There is an almost complete sequence identity between the two-thirds of reovirus type 3 sigma-1 protein and the reported sequence of phage SF6 lysozyme. In the absence of further study on SF6, it is impossible to rule out the possibility that the displayed sequence might come from a contaminant. This might therefore not represent the real SF6 lysozyme sequence.
