Function

The insulin-like growth factors, isolated from plasma, are structurally and functionally related to insulin but have a much higher growth-promoting activity. Promotes head development by inhibiting Wnt signaling during embryogenesis. Ref.3 Ref.4

Tissue specificity

Expressed in adult liver, lung, heart, kidney and peritoneal fat. Ref.1 Ref.2

Developmental stage

Expressed both maternally and zygotically after the midblastula transition. Present both dorsally and ventrally at the beginning of neurulation. Expression is restricted to the developing heart at the tailbud stage. Ref.3 Ref.4
