Protein

50S ribosomal protein L1

Gene

rpl1

Organism
Methanococcus vannielii (strain SB / ATCC 35089 / DSM 1224)
Status
Reviewed-Annotation score: Annotation score: 3 out of 5-Experimental evidence at protein leveli

Functioni

Probably involved in E site tRNA release (By similarity). Binds directly to 23S rRNA.By similarity
Protein L1 is also a translational repressor protein, it controls the translation of the L1 operon by binding to its mRNA. Thus it also controls transcription of L10 and L12 by translational coupling. Unlike the case in E.coli, where the site is in the untranslated mRNA leader, this site is within the L1 protein's structural gene.
